Senate District 45 Special Election

The governor has issued a Writ of Special Election to fill a vacancy in Senate District 45 using the schedule below. The vacancy was caused by the resignation of Senator Kelly Morrison effective June 6, 2024. Senate District 45 represents southwestern Hennepin County. 

Election Dates

• Special Primary: August 13, 2024 
• Special Election: November 5, 2024 

Filing Information

Candidates may file for this office during the filing period below with the Hennepin County election office, or at the Office of the Minnesota Secretary of State's Veterans Service Building location in St. Paul. (VSB will be open for filings and withdrawals.) Candidates and their supporters are reminded that, in addition to filing their candidacy for office as described above, campaign committees must register with the Campaign Finance and Public Disclosure Board no later than 14 days after the committee has raised or spent $750.

Voting Information

Since the special primary and special election will take place on the State Primary and State General Election, voters in Senate District 45 will see this race on their ballot and vote as normal for these elections.
