SAINT PAUL – On August 20, 2024, Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon announced the start of the Here We Vote campaign, a voter outreach and education effort challenging Minnesotans to reclaim their #1 spot in voter turnout in the nation for the 2024 general election. Here We Vote will provide Minnesotans with the basics about who can vote and how, when, and where they can vote.
“Minnesotans take pride in their community – and one way they show that pride and commitment is by voting,” said Secretary Simon. “Year after year, we have led the nation in voter turnout. We fell a bit from the top spot in 2022, but I know Minnesotans will show up this November and get us back to number one.”
Since the November 8, 2022 Election, more Minnesotans have regained eligibility to vote. In 2023, Minnesota restored the right to vote for those who have left prison behind. To vote in Minnesota a person must be at least 18 by Election Day, a U.S. Citizen, a resident of Minnesota for at least 20 days, not currently incarcerated for a felony conviction, and not under a court order that revokes their right to vote.
Here We Vote will direct Minnesotans to mnvotes.gov, the one-stop shop for election information. On mnvotes.gov, people can register to vote, check their voter registration status, view a sample ballot, request a ballot by mail, track their ballot, and find their local polling place. Election information is available on mnvotes.gov in English, Spanish, Hmong, Somali, Vietnamese, Russian, Chinese, Lao, Oromo, Khmer, and Amharic.
As a part of the campaign, the Office of the Minnesota Secretary of State has created a Here We Vote digital toolkit to promote key dates for the November 5 General Election.
Minnesotans will get a first look at the Here We Vote campaign by visiting the Office of the Minnesota Secretary of State’s booth in the Grandstand at the Minnesota State Fair, August 22 - September 2.
Here We Vote messages will appear throughout the fall on local television and radio stations, as well as social media platforms.
