Lynx Star Lindsay Whalen tells Minnesotans to ‘Get in the Game’ and VOTE in New TV PSA

September 22, 2016

Minnesotans can begin voting absentee in November election TOMORROW

SAINT PAUL — Today, Secretary of State Steve Simon and the Minnesota Lynx announced a new partnership designed to encourage Minnesotans to vote on November 8, including a 15-second TV public service announcement featuring Lynx star Lindsay Whalen.

The PSA features the WNBA champion and Olympic gold medalist cheering on Minnesotans to “Get in the game, Minnesota! Vote on November 8th!” The spot, which is now airing on FOX Sports North, encourages Minnesotans to visit mnvotes.org to register to vote online and request an absentee ballot. “I’m grateful to the Minnesota Lynx for their work and dedication to helping educate Minnesotans about the resources available to them when they vote this November,” said Secretary Simon. “I’m challenging the people of Minnesota to return our state back to number one in voter turnout, and to do that we need to work as a team to ensure our friends and family make their voices heard.”

“The Minnesota Lynx encourage all eligible Minnesotans to vote on November 8,” said Minnesota Lynx CEO Ethan Casson. “Tomorrow Minnesotans can begin casting their ballots early by voting absentee and we hope that any voter who can’t make it to the polls on Election Day, or who simply wants to vote beforehand for any reason, takes advantage of this option.”

The 15-second PSA will air on FOX Sports North, which telecasts Lynx games, between now and October 18, the pre-registration deadline in Minnesota. A 5-second PSA that encourages Minnesotans to vote on November 8 will air between now and Election Day.

The partnership with the Lynx also includes in-stadium promotions of voting messages, including announcer reads and LED sign announcements.
